Club Mahindra Hill Country Resort - Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India
|
‘Yours in service’ is how QVI Club Customer Care Representative Lalaine Vitug-Gemenez signs off and you bet they are definitely ‘In Your Service’. I was absolutely bowled over by the speed of service, professionalism & attitude of QVI Club customer care team and especially that of Ms. Lalaine. The entire process of signing up as an IR into QuestNet, purchasing my vacation package - XchangeWorld Xplore II, and booking my holiday was a piece of cake. Typically companies switch off once the purchase is made but here my experience was entirely different. All the WOW experiences started coming in after I was done with my purchase. To start with, here’s a rundown on my short holiday in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India.
We reached Kodai after a 7-hour drive from Ponnani, my hometown in Kerala. We were put up at the Club Mahindra - Hill Country Resort, approximately 15 minutes drive from the main Kodai city – but it was better than to be in the midst of city life which is what we were escaping from in the first place. The Hill Country Resort was probably one of the most picturesque resorts in Kodai. 1-bedroom suite & amenities were comfortable (not extremely premium but definitely met our expectations), absolutely amazing food and impeccable service. The balcony provided a heavenly view and fragrant cool breeze – how we wished for our own home to have such a view every morning with a cup of piping hot tea! The resort itself was so beautiful that we actually woke up early morning just to take a nice exploratory walk around the place. The resort even had mini playgrounds and 24/7 cartoon channels to keep the little ones busy.
The 2 full days were spent in seeing the many scenic mountain & valley views, forests, lakes and caves including Coaker’s Walk, Green Valley View (Suicide Point), Golf Course, Pillar Rocks, Devils Kitchen (Guna Caves), Pine Forest (just like in the Indian movies), Moier Point, Mental Forest (where one supposedly goes mad due to the medicinal trees and plants that plays havoc with one’s upper chamber), Upper Lake View, Silent Valley View, Berijam Lake, Kodai Lake & Boating, Caps Valley View, Kurinji Andavar Temple, Brayant Park, Chettiar Park, Palani Temple View, Kodai City View, Poombarai Old Village View, etc. The resort staff helped to hook us up with an economical and informative guide who helped us to see and experience Kodai’s best places in 2 days.
The best things to shop for in Kodai are the homemade chocolates and the many natural medicinal and scented oils like Eucalyptus, Wintergreen, Lemongrass, and other flower oils. There is a traditional Tibetan market next to Kodai lake selling sweaters and other good quality winter wear for dirt cheap prices. There are also lots of shops offering wooden handicrafts, etc., but nothing really Kodai special. You’ll also find numerous shacks selling bright long orange carrots with the green leaves intact straight from the terrace plantation farms and fresh fruits of all kinds and flavours.
While you’re there I definitely recommend the ayurvedic massage by the wellness centre Sowkhya at the resort – best value for money – the massage seemed to go on forever. Finally I thought I would have to tell them to stop or hurry up…. It seemed like their only mission in life was to make me feel relaxed and special – felt like a ‘Thamburati’ (traditional Keralite queen) with flute music in the background, waft of oil boiling with medicinal herbs and trained hands working magic…
Our holiday was just absolutely awesome. Kodai gave us the much needed relaxation and rejuvenation break – truly appealing to all senses – beautiful sights to cool our eyes, cool breezes carrying the soothing fragrance of blooms and eucalyptus trees, serene silence broken only by sounds of nature, cool fabulous weather to freeze time and sumptuous accompanying food as the icing on the cake. Truly Mother Nature at her very best, we actually felt like breathing in a year’s supply of fresh oxygen to last us till next holiday and freezing the sights and sounds into our hearts and minds.
Kudos to Kool Kodai, QVI Club, QuestNet and RYTHM. Look forward to next vacation through QVI Club – have 12 more nights to go in 5 years… |
